Time: Leave the Woodland Mall (in front of
Elder Beerman) at 9:30 a.m.
Cost: $8.00 (lunch on your own)
Visitors to Providence today get a sense of what canal
travel was like during a trip aboard an authentic, muledrawn
canal boat on an original section of the Miami
and Erie Canal. During the 45-minute trip, including
passage through an original lock, living history
characters tell educational and entertaining stories
about life in the late-1800s. You don’t want to miss out
on this exciting, historical trip! Registration and

Trip: Carousel Museum
Date: Thursday, August 28
Time: Leave the Woodland Mall parking lot (in
front of Elder Beerman) at 10:00 a.m.
Cost: $8.00 per person (lunch on own at The
Lunch Box).
Ride into the past at the Merry-Go-Round
Museum, located in Sandusky, Ohio. The “oom pa pa”
of the band organ and the painted ponies will be an
experience that will thrill and enchant you! Relive your
childhood excitement when you climb aboard the fully
restored Allen Herschell Carousel. See a glorious
authentic collection of tools, benches and animals from
the Dentzel Carving Shop of 1867 and so much more!
This trip is limited to 11 participants. Registration and

Wacky Sculpture Contest
Start date: Tuesday, September 2
Completion date: Friday, September 19
Judges: Residence of Kingston of Perrysburg

Last year’s Wacky Sculpture Project was so much fun! This year is promising to be
even better! Each Senior Center will have a team of 5-6 people who will create a“wacky sculpture” out of the following materials:

Yarn
Popsicle sticks
Milk jugs
Rubber bands
Dried macaroni noodles |
Large & small marshmallows
Metal clothes hangers
Aluminum foil
Paper clips

If you are able to donate these items to any to the center nearest you, we’d greatly
appreciate it! Please drop off all supplies by September 2. Each center must
register by September 2. The grand prize is $50.00 gift card donated to the

“Maumee River from Fort to Port”
Date: Wednesday, September 3
Time: 11:00 a.m.
Speaker: Fred Folger, historian
Mr. Folger is a retired history teacher and a member of
the Maumee Valley Heritage Corridor board. He will be
speaking on the Maumee River and how it is the longest
river to flow into any of the five Great Lakes. His program
will follow the river "from fort to port," beginning at the
headwaters in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to the harbor light in
Maumee Bay. Fred will highlight the significant
landmarks, scenic highlights and other points of interest
along the historic waterway. |

us as we venture to Levis Commons, have dinner at
Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano and then hear an amazing
concert featuring Dan and Don, musicians.

The Taste of a Nation

The event will highlight some traditional aspects of an
authentic German celebration. Special features will
include; German wine and beer tasting, traditional
German food and the tunes of Polka. To get the event
started, we will elect a Mayor to uncork the first bottle of
wine. In Germany when this occurs, they call out
“O'zapft is!” (Bavarian: “It’s tapped!”).
